I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in january of this year. Im on Nova Rapid in the day and Lantus at night.
For about 3 months i was taking the right amount of insulin and all of my injections. As im 17 i began to get curious about it and started not to take my Nova Rapid and only take Lantus at night. After about a week my blood sugar was normal every single day without taking Nova Rapid, i was even eating alot of sugary sweets and chocolate.
About 1 week ago i started to take Nova Rapid again and everytime i used it i kept going low. Im on very very very little insulin so decreasing it would make no difference.
Anybody know what is actually going on?
That certainly could be the honeymoon phenomenon, where your insulin system seems to self-correct itself after diagnosis and treatment, but only temporarily.
Otherwise, it could be that you are still finding your correct dosage and regimen. There is nothing wrong with only taking Lantus if that is all you need. But it could be that you are taking enough to take care of all the food you eat as well as your baseline requirement and that is not normally suggested. So, your doctor may recommend reducing Lantus and if necessary using corresponding amounts of Rapid.
